Follow these awesome carpet cleaning hacks to turn any old carpet into new
Carpets are cozy in the winters and give a relaxing feeling in the summer. They bear a lot of trouble for us, from stubborn pet fur to unlikely juice spills, they’ve seen it all.
Even though carpets are great when a house, a home-like feel, they can be challenging to manage. Weekly vacuuming usually doesn’t do the trick, and you need to know some extra hacks to help your carpet clean and pristine.
Go for the Lint Roller
Vacuuming doesn’t always get those crumbs and cruds out of your carpet. If you have pets who shed like crazy, and also find your hair falling everywhere, not everything may be cleaned by a mere vacuum cleaner. Other than that, if you have long-hair carpets, even the most powerful vacuum cleaners can’t go into the depths of it.
To solve all these problems, you would need some elbow grease and a lint roller to get all the difficult-to-get particles out of the carpet. You can do this regularly, and it would barely take you 5 minutes each time.
Use the Iron
This hack is our favorite and the most effective one. With a simple three-step process you can make any hard stains vanish in no time.
- Step 1: Vacuum the carpet to remove any excess dirt and debris. This way, you would be only focusing on the bothersome stains.
- Step 2: Make a 3:1 mixture of water and vinegar. The water would help moisten the stain, and the vinegar would soften it. Once the mixture is absorbed into the fibers, you move on to the next step.
- Step 3: Place a towel on the stained area and then apply heat with an iron. The stain from the carpet would easily transfer to the towel.
Blot, Don’t Rub
When you spill something on your carpet, the natural instinct is to clean it. And that usually leads to intense carpet rubbing. However, you should know that rubbing the carpet makes the stain worse. You don’t want that. Do you? Plus, once the stain has settled deeply into the carpet, it could lead to permanent discoloration.
A better alternative is to use the blotting technique to clean the carpet. For best results, use an inwards motion. Blotting inwards keeps the stain from spreading.
Fight the Oil Stains with Some Baking Soda
Oil stains can be quite stubborn, especially on carpets. Not only are they ugly on their own, but they also attract dust and other particles to create a significant mess that is even harder to deal with. The dabbing and hot water technique don’t work here either.
The solution? Baking soda. Sprinkle a fair amount of baking soda on the oil stain. This absorbs the oil and cleans the stain. Once the carpet is dry, you can vacuum excess baking soda left behind.
Repeat this method a few times until the stain is no longer visible.. In case a modest stain still persists, use the dabbing method.
Shaving Cream
Shaving creams are a life-saver for carpets, especially if they are light-colored. Dirt stains are sharper, and regular cleaning doesn’t help. If you aren’t much a fan of expensive cleaning products then just apply shaving cream to your carpet for cleaning. The oldest of stains will lift off.
